MDD District Restructuring Update
May 2003

As we have reported several times during the past year and a half, the MDD Board has been hard at work rethinking and reworking the what, why, and how of being a Unitarian Universalist District. The planning is reaching its end – it is now time to implement what we believe will be a more effective and efficient way of being.

What will this mean for Mountain Desert District?

It will mean that the district will now have two levels of responsibility – one that attends to the infrastructure of the district and one that attends to the programming and services that the district will provide to its member congregations.

The MDD Board of Trustees will have responsibility for infrastructure. This will include:

There will be an MDD Service Council, made up of representatives from each MDD Service Area, which will attend to the programming and services. Responsibilities of the Council will include:

  • Cross-service-area communication and scheduling
  • Evaluation of programming and services
 :

The Six Service Areas will develop and deliver programming and services in the following areas:   (PDF files)

mdduua.org/structure/outreach/
mdduua.org/structure/community/
mdduua.org/structure/faithdev/
mdduua.org/structure/justice/

The District Staff will remain unchanged:

Three other new programs will be set up this summer and fall.

  • Consultants to communicate with small congregations on a regular basis at a more regional level (probably cluster level)
  • Development of a team of MDD Trainers to facilitate workshops/retreats/etc across the district
  • Gathering materials from workshops/programs that have worked in your congregation – let’s share them with others!
