UPDATE 7/20/11: The Las Conchas wildfire is now at 75% containment, and Los Alamos is getting back to normal. The impact of the fire on surrounding communities is still significant: 63 families have lost their homes, and many individuals are dealing with lost income due to the evacuation. Concerns about flash flooding as the summer rains begin are high, particularly in neighboring pueblos. Self Help, Inc, in Los Alamos is working with individuals who are undergoing hardship due to the fire, and welcomes donations.
The city of Los Alamos, NM, has been evacuated due to a huge wildfire that sprang up on Sunday afternoon and has now grown to over 60,000 acres of active burning just a few miles away. The latest official report as of this posting is here.
