UUA/MDD invites you to join the World Wide Web.

Approximately half of the 40+ congregations, fellowships and affiliates of the Mountain Desert District of the UUA have learned to appreciate the benefits of visibility on the InterNet resource known as the World Wide Web and want you to share in them. As of July 17, 1999, 650 (nearly 65 percent) of all our UU congregations had home pages linked to the UUA's website.

If your congregation doesn't yet have a web site, find out more about how to spread the good news of your congregation. Go to http://www.uua.org/CONG/websters.html to find out more! If your congregation is associated with the Mountain Desert District, you are eligible to have a starter homepage created for you, to your specifications, by the MDD web weaver.   Please preview our suggested Start-up Template. We also suggest you view other MDD church websites list under "MDD OnLine"

Why? What? How?

Why: This is especially valuable to UU folks in your area, or who may be interested in visiting or settling there. The MDD/UUA and its web-weaver would like to help facilitate the process of establishing a web presence for your congregation or fellowship. We will create a startup WWWeb homepage, using information you provide, on a web site accessible from the UUA web site and locatable from any of the major WWW search resources.

What: The information we suggest you provide is fundamental. The purpose is to present your group or organization as you would like the World to perceive you in an open forum.

    We would like to include:
  1. Your name -
  2. Your location; address, directions; or other aids -
  3. Your contact options; phone, FAX, e-mail, etc. -
  4. Minister, Officers and Chairs of interest -
  5. A comment on your philosophy, covenant or similar declaration -
  6. A Logo, photo or other unique identifier -
  7. A paragraph about your environment (community, region, state or spiritual entity) -
  8. Your own optional suggestions.
Examples: Other MDD congregations and fellowships with their own web sites are listed in the MDD On Line page, including their web URL's. The range of sophistication is broad, but the fundamental function is simple: "present your organization to a community of interested people, to whom you would like to express your reason for being".     MDD wants to help you, No Charge!

How: We will draft a model "Home page", using information you provide to us in response to the attached Request Form, and post it for your approval and/or critique on a trial "Web site." Upon your acceptance (including requested adjustments), this page URL (WWW address) will be linked to the UUA/MDD web site, making it accessible to all who explore the District via "The Web." With your concurrance, we will also link it directly to the UUA/central Web site's directory of congregations/fellowships.

MDD will generate and post a website for any MDD startup congregation:

We have included an informal Request Form, in two(2) formats, to facilitate your subscription. Form(1) can be printed for USPost mailing, or copied/pasted for e-mailing. Simply fill/edit in the requested information and mail it. The other, Form(2) may be filled in on the spot and submitted by e-mail with the click of your mouse. We suggest either of these options: Detailed instruction, addresses, etc. are included in Form(1).
