Procedure to register and park a domain name with godaddy.com for $8.95/yr with
free email forwarding service using this domain name at mydomain.com
Go to http://godaddy.com, sign up with a username and self-selected password. Find out
if the domain name of your choice is available, then follow the instruction to register it.
At different stages of the registration, you are offered a variety of different choices at
different costs. Resist all temptations and choose the one that allows you to "park the
domain name for free." At the end of the registration, you’ll be asked for a credit card
number to be charged the $8.95/yr domain registration fee. This will take 24 hours to go
into effect.
Go to http://mydomain.com and sign up with your email address and a self-selected
password. Follow the instruction and let them know that your domain resides with
godaddy.com. Set your web forwarding address to your church’s homepage and create as
many email forwarding addresses as you need them. The catch-all (any unspecified
username) will automatically go to you as owner of your domain name and can be
forwarded to the appropriate person they are intended for. Once this is set up, it takes
about 24 hours to go into effect.
Go back to http://godaddy.com and click on "my account" then sign in again with your
email address and password. In the Account Management area, click on "Domain
Names." The domain name(s) registered by you will pop up and you’ll see the Name
Servers listed as "park1.godaddy.com" etc… Select "modify DNS information" and add
the following 4 DNS entries in caps:
NS1.MYDOMAIN.COM
NS2.MYDOMAIN.COM
NS3.MYDOMAIN.COM
NS4.MYDOMAIN.COM
Once this is set, wait 24 hours and see if you can access your website using the domain
name and test the forwarding service.
When these work to your satisfaction, send the appropriate information to the District
Office and publicize your new domain name and email addresses.
